Force Dryer - Brush Change Procedure
For Units With Motor Before September of 2006

Tools
Silicone Caulking
New Brushes (Grandaddy requires two sets of brushes)
Straight Blade Screwdriver
Phillips Screwdriver
Utility Knife

Step 1
Unplug the Unit!
Step 2
Locate lid. Remove lid screws. (RIGHT to tighten, LEFT to loosen)
Using a utility knife cut the silicone seal between the unit and lid. ALWAYS CUT AWAY FROM YOUR BODY! Peel back foam and remove. NOTE: Make sure not to bend lid when removing!
Step 3
Locate pink end connected to motor brush. Gently pull back away from motor, pink end will pop off.

Step 4
Remove the two screws holding the metal brush clamp. Remove the metal brush clamp.

Step 5
Using your new brushes locate the brush pin and the motor slot.

Step 6
Follow this step very carefully. If brush pin is inserted in the motor slot incorrectly, the brush will not cradle the armature correctly. The brush will raise up and the carbon will scratch the armature destroying your motor!

Step 7
Slide the new brush in with the brush pin facing downward. The brush pin should be inside the motor slot. The brush should lock into place.
Step 8
Replace metal brush clamp. Replace and tighten both screws. Be careful not to over tighten!
Step 9
Using a straight blade screwdriver, position it so that the brass terminal does not pop out when you push the pink end back onto the brush. Gently push the pink end back on to the brass terminal. The brush should lock into place.

Step 10
Repeat Steps 3 - 8 To Change The Other Brushes
Step 11
Make sure to plug in your unit and test run the motor before replacing the lid. The new brushes may spark more than normal until they wear in. Turn it on and off a couple of times quickly to give the carbon a chance to cradle around the armature. If you have a variable speed unit, turn it on low for a few minutes to give the carbon a chance to cradle around the armature.
Step 12
Gently replace foam to its original position.

Step 13
Remove old excess silicone caulking from lid and unit with a utility knife. Seal all around the top of the unit with new silicone.Replace the lid. Silicone may squeeze out, this is normal. Start each screw, do not tighten until all screws are started. If not, you will not be able to get the last couple of screws in.
Step 14
Let Silicone Dry. It is important that you allow your unit to sit overnight so that the silicone can dry. If silicone is not allowed to dry properly, the lid may leak. Using your utility knife cut away the excess silicone.
